Conservationists Estimate India's Wild Tiger Population

The Sunderban delta region of India is home to about half the remaining population of wild Bengal tigers. Despite the many dangers of entering the tigers' habitat, conservationists perform a population survey every three years to estimate the remaining numbers of the large carnivores. Results of recent surveys indicate that poaching, habitat destruction, and the effects of climate change are all having a negative and devasting effect on the tiger population.
