Tourism Impacts Mediterranean Loggerhead Turtles

With millions of people planning and taking summer holidays, tourism often becomes a hefty burden for wildlife to bear. Most recently, conservationists concerned about the impact of tourism have focused their attention on the Mediterranean loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta).

These endangered turtles nest on the beaches of Zakynthos, Greece. Recently, tourists have been relaxing on the protected beaches, and in the process, they have been disturbing the endangered turtles who come to the shores to lay their eggs. Conservationists have criticised the Greek government for not enforcing the protected status of the beaches. Find out more in the following articles:
