WWF Publishes Case Study of Sea Turtles of the Turtle Islands

Friday September 30, 2005
The WWF has published a case study of the marine turtles that nest on the remote Turtle Islands in the Sulu Sea. The study reveals that the collection of turtle eggs as a form of traditional livelihood is extensive and that outside protected santuaries, no turtle eggs are left to hatch.

The WWF hopes that by working with local communities, it can improve awareness of turtle conservation. Additionally, conservationists are working to foster the development of alternate livelihoods for local people, livelihoods that do not depend on the collection and sale of turtle eggs.
