Endangered Green Turtles Survive Hurricane Wilma

Wednesday November 2, 2005
Two endangered green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) braved Hurricane Wilma, the strongest Atlantic Hurricane on record, as it passed over their feeding grounds.

The turtles, Pearl and Rogest, were tagged with satellite transmitters this past summer. Signals from those transmitters received before and after Hurricane Wilma revealed that both turtles survived the violent storm. Rogest weathered Hurricane Wilma in the waters near the Florida Keys and Perl endured the hurricane's full force as the eye passed over her location off the coast of Mexico.
