African Butterflies Have LEDs on Wings

Researchers from the University of Exeter, UK, have discovered that fluorescent patches on the wings of African swallowtail butterflies (Princeps nireus) act in a strikingly similar way to high emission LEDs.

The example shown is of a South American Morpho species.Additionally, the African swallowtail mentioned is Papilio nireus….none have the slightest connection to Light- emitting- diodes(LEDs). C.M.Limmer N.Y.
