Endangered Saiga Antelope to Receive Protection
Saturday November 26, 2005
The saiga antelope population has plummetted during the past decade from more than one-million antelope (in the early 1990s) to just 40,000 antelope today. The falling numbers of siaga antelope (Saiga tatarica tatarica) is attributed to poaching and habitat destruction. Now special conservation action is being taken to protect the saiga antelope populations in Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia.
