Listen to Bird Song Recordings at 'Learn Bird Songs'

Monday May 7, 2007

While doing a bit of research on the various techniques of bird identification, I stumbled across a superb website, Learn Bird Songs, which offers a generous collection of bird song recordings and useful tips about how to learn to recognize the songs of various species of birds.

Here are a few of my favorite nuggets of information from this wonderful site:

The bird songs featured at the Learn Bird Songs website were recorded by Lang Elliott, a nature recordist, wildlife photographer, and nature writer. You can find his books and recodings at his website, The Songs of Wild Birds.

Hi Nora,
Hummingbirds do not have elaborate vocalizations. They do make high pitched chirps and squeeks. Perhaps more noticable is the hum of their wingbeats, which are so rapid that it makes a distinct whirring sound. If you would like, you can listen to hummingbird chirps and the sound of their wings at the following webpage:

Take care,
Laura
