Quiz: Can You Identify These Birds?

There are an estimated 9,000-10,000 species of birds that inhabit our planet, ranging in size from the tiny Bee Hummingbird (Mellisuga helenae) to the massive, flightless Ostrich (Struthio camelus). Birds have evolved to live in a wide variety of habitats and environmental conditions. They are unique for their feathers: no other animal group possesses plumage.

The diversity and uniqueness of birds make them a favorite subject for wildlife watchers. Bird identification is challenging yet accessible—there are many field guides to help birdwatchers of all levels identify the species they observe.
