Video - Jellyfish Swimming Through Dye

In my previous post, I talked about an experiment that researchers performed that involved spraying fluorescent dye into the paths of swimming jellyfish to visualize the movement of water around the animals as they moved. You can see a video clip of this experiment here. Notice that the dye layer moves with the jellyfish. Each time it contracts its bell and moves forward, it sheds a little bit of the dye that it has carried with it.
