Herpetologist Romulus Whitaker examines the threats facing two of India's most iconic reptiles, the gharial and king cobra, in his talk about the real danger lurking in the water. Severe pollution threatens the waterways these reptiles inhabit and as a result the gharial and king cobra are suffering significant declines. Whitaker cautions that since the gharial and king cobra function as keystone species within their ecosystems, their disappearance would have devastating effects.
