The gars and garpike are a group of ray-finned fish that include seven known species. Gars and garpike are adept hunters that inhabit shallow freshwaters. Their range extends from North America through Cuba but are also known from fossils to have inhabited Europe, Africa and South America. Gars and garpike can breathe air. Thye grow to a lenght of between 1 and 4 meters long.
