The teleosts are a group of ray-finned fishes that include 40 to 50 subgroups of fishes. Telosts aare varied but share a few characteristics such as a homocercal tail (a tail that has upper and lower lobes that are approximately symmetrical to one another) and highly mobile mouth parts. Telosts also exibit a variety of uses of the swim bladder, an internal sac filled with gas that enables fish to control their buoyancy and thereby the depth at which they reside in the water column. Teleosts, though diverse, are generally divided into four groups, the osteoglossomorpha, the elopomorpha, euteleostei, and clupeomorpha.
