Over 140 Sea Turtles Drowned in Indonesian Waters

Monday July 4, 2005
PANJANG ISLAND, Indonesia. The WWF reported today that 141 green sea turtles and 3 hawksbill turtles have been drowned after becoming entangled in fishing nets off the coast of Panjang Island, Indonesia. The WWF and The Nature Conservancy are now calling for the creation of a protected area off the northwest coast of Borneo to prevent future sea turtle losses.

You can read more at the WWF's website, 'Scores of marine turtles entangled in Indonesian nets'.
