Female Fiddler Crabs Play Hard to Get

It isn't easy for male fiddler crabs to convince females to settle down, a research team from the University of California has discovered. The team, lead by Dr Catherine deRivera, conducted a study of fiddler crabs (Uca crenulata) in the Sweetwater River estuary in Chula Vista, California. Their investigations revealed that female crabs scrutinized up to 100 males before settling down to the practicality of mating.
