There's so much going on in the news that relates to animals and wildlife and as much as I aspire to cover every story relating to animals and wildlfe, it simply is too vast a subject for any one person to cover entirely on their own. So I've decided to put together an animals and wildlife linklog to help me to capture the many relevant headlines throughout the year. Each year will have it's own linklog that I hope to serve as a launchpad for students, teachers, conservationists and general readers interested in animals and wildlife.
I'd also like to mention several animals and wildlife news resources, because the stories they provide are of a high quality and are archived for years to come, helping to offer in-depth study of a news topic over time. My favorite sources include:
National Public Radio
NPR often has a wealth of animals and wildlife related news and feature articles at their website. A good portion of their content is available in audio format, a refreshing change to printed & published format of newspapers and magazines. Here's a sampling of some of their recent stories:
- Po'ouli
- Wildlife management revives dwindling black bear population
- Listening to elephants
- Radio expeditions
- Gabon moves to preserve rainforests
BBC News
Among the world's best news sources, BBC News frequently offers the latest headlines relating to nature, science, conservation, and wildlife. Additionally, the BBC is very good at following a story through time, building up a collection of reports all relating to a single topic. A recent example is their investigation of the efforts underway to save the Iberian lynx:
- Iberian lynx 'racing against time'
- Champagne corks help the lynx
- Cork replacements threaten wildlife
WWF Newsroom
The WWF Newsroom is a valuable resource not only for its top-notch reports, but also for its various new categories. These includee:
National Geographic News
National Geographic News too has superb coverage of wildlife-related stories. They break their news into several categories that are of use when searching for news topics:
