Plummeting gorilla population draws conservation fundingPopulations of eastern lowland gorillas have suffered tremendously over the past decade. Their numbers have fallen sharply, from 17,000 gorillas in 1994 to only 5,000 in 2004. But a multi-million dollar grant from Conservation International and the Global Conservation Fund provides the hope and resources so desperatly needed to save these endangered animals.It seems inconceivable that humans might let our closest living ancestors slip irreversibly into extenction.
