Capture and Killing of Orang-utans Going Unchecked in Kalimantan
Tuesday September 6, 2005
KALIMANTAN, Indonesia. A study by TRAFFIC and the WWF revealed that "between 200 and 500 Bornean Orang-utans originating from Kalimantan, are traded each year on Kalimantan, Java and Bali". Current Indonesian law prohibits the capture, killing, or possession of orang-utans and other threatened primates but violations are going unpunished. TRAFFIC and the WWF have called for stricter adherence to and enforcement of these laws.
