'Sooty the Goldfish' Safe After Harrowing Night

Sunday January 1, 2006
NOTTINGHAMSHIRE, United Kingdom. An ornamental goldfish is now safe and sound after what must have been a rather trying night. The fish was rescued after he fell down a chimney onto a lit fire and then flopped his way onto the hearth. The homeowner, Bill Brooks, quickly scooped the fish up and placed him safely in a bowl of water.

It is thought that a heron captured Sooty the Goldfish from a garden pond and then flew him to the chimney top. The heron is thought to have then dropped Sooty down the chimney while trying to make a meal of him. Luckily for Sooty, there was someone home to help him out. Sooty is now at a pet shop recuperating and is doing well.
