Thames Whale Dies Despite Rescue Efforts
Saturday January 21, 2006
The northern bottlenose whale whale that was stranded in the Thames River has died following a massive effort by conservationists to save the animal, the BBC reports. Rescuers had lifted the whale from the water onto a barge where it was given medical treatement. The barge was to then journey downriver with the hopes of releasing the distressed whale in open water. But their efforts ended sadly and the whale succumbed to convulsions and died early Saturday evening.
