Tiny Dinosaur Unearthed in Germany

Wednesday June 7, 2006

Fossil remains of a new species of miniature dinosaur has been discovered in a quarry in Germany. The dinosaur remains were preserved in rock that dated back to the late Jurassic. Scientists first thought the creatures were juveniles, since the fossil dinosaurs ranged in size between 1.7-6.2m (5.5-20ft). Upon closer inspection, researchers discovered that the animals were instead fully grown adults.

The new dinosaur was given the scientific name Europasaurus holgeri, which when translated means Holger's reptile from Europe, in honor of the scientist who first found the dinosaurs' bones in 1998, Holger Luedtke.
