Largest Known Pliosaur Unearthed in Svalbards
Palaeontologists from the University of Oslo have found fossil remains of over two dozen marine reptiles that date back to the time of the dinosaurs, 150 million years ago.
The fossils were discovered in the Svalbards, a chain of island that lie about half-way between Norway and the North Pole.
The fossils include specimens of ichthyosaurs and plesiosaurs, two groups of extinct marine reptiles. One of the plesiosaur fossils represents the largest ever discovered and has been dubbed 'The Monster'.
