Mining Threatens Jamacia's Endemic Birds
Bauxite mining may threaten environmentally sensitive areas of western Jamaica if a current application for prospecting for the aluminium ore is approved. The region, called the Cockpit Country, bosts steep hills and deep valleys and provides critical habitat for 79 species of Jamacia's 100 endemic species of birds.
