The bald eagle is a conservation success story. In 1963, their population was as low as 417 breeding pairs. But after forty years of protection under the Endangered Species Act, bald eagles are on their way to recovery, with over 9,000 nesting pairs in the lower 48 US States.

Now, the US Government is considering delisting the bald eagle, a step that has some biologists concerned. NPR has an insightful article on some such concerns that focuses on how humans and eagles are competing for the same habitat and what it means for the species future.
