Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES)

Definition: The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) is a convention established in 1973 that regulates or prohibits the international trade of plant and animal species that are believed to be harmed by or that may be harmed by international trade. The authority to implement this is under section 8 of the Endangered Species Act.
