Hoofed Mammals - Order Perissodactyla / Order Artiodactyla

Hoofed mammals include two orders, the odd-toed hoofed mammals (Order Perissodactyla) and the even-toed hoofed mammals (Order Artiodactyla). Odd-toed hoofed mammals include horses and their relatives, rhinoceroses, and tapirs. Even-toed hoofed mammals include pigs, hippos, deer, camels, giraffe and okapi, and cattle.

In the 1960's, hunting and habitat destruction drove Przewalski's horse (Equus verus przewalskii) to the brink of extinction. The horse disappeared from its natural range throughout Mongolia and Central Asia and survived only in captivity (primarily in Europe).
