Hummingbirds - Family Trochilidae

Hummingbirds (Family Trochilidae) include over 300 species of birds. The family is subdivided into two subfamilies, the hermit hummingbirds (Subfamily Phaethornithinae) and the trochilines (Subfamily Trochilinae). Hummingbirds are small birds with long narrow beaks and long thin tongues. They exhibit a unique hovering flight ability.

Hummingbirds (Family Trochilidae)
The humming bird family (Family Trochilidae) includes over 300 species of birds. The family is subdivided into two sub families, the hermit hummingbirds (Subfamily Phaethornithinae) and the trochilines (Subfamily Trochilinae).
New Hummingbird Discovered in Columbian Cloud Forests
A new species of hummingbird has been discovered in the montane cloud forests of south-west Colombian. The Gorgeted Puffleg (Eriocnemis isabellae) is named for its brilliant, bicolor throat patch (of iridescent blue and green feathers) and the white tufts of feathers above its legs.
Ruby-throated Hummingbird - Archilochus colubris
Ruby-Throated Hummingbirds are tiny birds that grow to lengths of 75mm-90mm (3.0in-3.5in) and weights between 3.4g-3.8g (0.11oz-0.13oz). Both sexes have metallic green feathers on their back and white feathers on their belly. Males have irridescent ruby colored feathers on the throat.
