Classification
The hummingbird family (Family Trochilidae) is subdivided into two subfamilies, the hermit hummingbirds (Subfamily Phaethornithinae) and the trochilines (Subfamily Trochilinae). In scientific terms, hummingbirds are classified as follows:
- Kingdom: Animalia
- Phylum: Chordata
- Class: Aves
- Order: Apodiformes
- Family: Trochilidae
