Range

Hummingbirds are found in the New World (including the Nearctic and Neotropics). They do not occur in Africa, Asia, Europe, or Australia. Their range extends from Alaska to Tierra del Fuego (at the southern tip of South America) and includes islands in the Carribean. Most hummingbird species are found in tropical and sub-tropical regions (between 10 degrees N and 25 degrees S lattitude) in countries such as Columbia, Brazil, and Ecuador.

Habitat

Hummingbirds inhabit a wide variety of terrestrial habitats in temperate and tropical regions. They require a good supply of nectar-producing flowers and this is present in habitats such as arid scrub, desert oasis, coastal lowlands, tropical rainforest, pine forests, and alpine tundra. Hummingbirds inhabit areas that range from coastal lowlands to mountainous habitat up to an 5000 meters in elevation.
