This Roman snail, also known as the edible snail (or escargot), belongs to a group of snails known as the typical snails (Helicidae). Typical snails are air-breathing, land-living
gastropods. Familiar species belonging to the typical snails include the garden snail and the edible snail. Typical snails are native to Eurasia, although they have been introduced to and now colonize many parts of the world.
