Newts / Salamanders (Order Caudata)Newts and salamanders (Order Caudata) have a slim body and a long tail. Unlike frogs and toads, newts and salamanders retain their tails after they mature into adults. Newts and salamanders have varied live histories (some species are amphibious while others are terrestrial or aquatic).
Ringed Salamander (Ambystoma annulatum)
The ringed salamander (Ambystoma annulatum) has a dark brown body and cream-yellow rings. This salamander occurs in the central and southern United States in Missouri, western Arkansas and parts of eastern Oklahoma. California Tiger Salamander (Ambystoma californiense)
The California tiger salamander (Ambystoma californiense) is listed on the US Endangered Species List. This salamander is black with cream-yellow spots and occurs in central California. |
